Your bachelorette party should feel like you. Not like a Pinterest board your MOH saved three years ago. Not like the TikTok version of a bachelorette. Not like what your bridesmaids think a bachelorette should look like. Like you.
Making sure it does is easier than you might think — it just requires one honest conversation early on.
Tell your MOH what you actually want
It’s fun to have things be a surprise. But this is your party — and you want to make sure you’re doing what feels right to you, not what feels right to everyone else. Your MOH genuinely wants to do something you’ll love. Give her the information she needs to make that happen.
Have a simple conversation: here’s what I’d love, here’s what I’d rather skip, here’s the vibe I’m going for. Simple, low-key, and intentional? Or a bigger trip with more people? A weekend away or a local night out? Give her direction and then let her plan. If you’re not sure what you want, start with what you don’t want. That narrows it down fast.
Think about the timing
The bachelorette party is one of the most overlooked scheduling decisions in wedding planning. Too close to the wedding and you’re exhausted right when you need to be at your best. Too far out and it can feel disconnected from the wedding energy.
I generally recommend two to four months before the wedding as the sweet spot — far enough that you’re not in crunch time, close enough that the excitement is real but also keep in mind when wedding showers will be happening and schedule accordingly.
The bach party doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s
Not every bachelorette needs to be a trip to Nashville or a Miami pool day. If what actually sounds good to you is a cabin weekend with your five closest people, a spa day, a cooking class, or a local bar crawl followed by breakfast — that is a valid and wonderful bachelorette party.
The best bach parties I hear about from couples are almost always the ones that felt most like the person being celebrated. Not the biggest, not the most Instagrammable — the most them. Own what you want. The people who love you will celebrate it.
A note on bachelorette budgets
Be honest early with your bridal party about expectations — both yours and theirs. If you’re dreaming of a destination bachelorette party, communicate that with enough lead time for people to save. If budget is a real consideration for your group, factor that in when you’re sharing your vision.
The MOH and bridesmaids who are planning this event love you and want to celebrate you. Make it easy for them to do that without financial stress.
Your celebrations — from bachelorette to wedding day — should all feel like you. Legacy Events Iowa helps you protect that vision. legacyeventsiowa.com
