Many brides let their engagement season fly by without fully soaking it in, but that’s not going to be you because you’re going to learn the romanticizing ways below so you can be fully present and happy during your engagement season. Deal?!
Let’s start with the following word: Season.
Your engagement is exactly that. A season. It’s filled with lots of to-dos, but it’s also supposed to be romanticized. Here’s how I’d do it, but as always, take what resonates and lose what doesn’t.
Go to the bridal shows
Bridal shows are an opportunity for all the vendors in your city/area to get together so you can see what’s out there. To find one, simply search “bridal show near me” or “your city bridal shows.” Most are free!
These can be a great thing to do early in your engagement. Dress up, take your mom or friends, and grab food after. There are usually really cool booths, vendors that can spark ideas for you, yummy drinks and bites to eat.
I always recommend going to the bridal shows to window shop for ideas. You do not have to go with the intention of booking anyone. This is for the vibes. To get you in the mood.
Go big on dress shopping
Do not treat your dress appointment like a task you have to check off your list. That energy is not allowed!!! You agreed, you’re romanticizing this season, and that’s part of the rules, ok?
In case you need to hear this, I’m going to say it. This is the only opportunity you will get to go try on beautiful white dresses with your favorite people, all dolled up, sipping champagne. So DO IT!
And listen. If you’re reading this cringing because you don’t want to drop an arm and a leg on a dress, that’s fair. But you can still go big if you order your dress online.
Ship 5-6 dresses to your house and create the experience there. Invite your mom, aunts, grandparents, and close friends. Have someone bring champagne and let them be with you as you do a little fashion show. Even if you don’t choose one that you ordered and have to return them all, that’s an experience you will remember forever.
Taste everything you can
Cake tastings. Catering tastings. If a vendor offers a tasting, say yes. This is one of the only parts of planning where your homework is literally eating good food and deciding what you love.
Most caterers include a tasting or offer one for a small fee, and some even apply that fee to your total if you book. Some let you bring guests. Bring your partner, your mom, whoever makes it fun. Don’t just show up, taste, and leave. Linger. Talk about it in the car after. Romanticize it, remember?
Make it a date!
Anytime you have a “planning session,” you’re making it a date. Could be anything you and your partner like to do together. Sunday morning coffee, Tuesday cocktails, or Friday takeout. Keep the sessions focused and time-boxed so they don’t bleed into the rest of your life.
Final Thoughts
None of this works if you’re doing it while stressed, rushed, or scrolling your to-do list mid-appointment. The whole point of a season is that it has room in it. Room for coffee dates, dress fittings, cake bites, and everything in between.
You don’t get this time back. So go to the bridal show. Try on the dresses. Taste the cake. Make the planning sessions dates. Feel all of it.
That’s the season. Enjoy it.
