Your Go-to Guide to Wedding Accessories

Your dress is a big decision—but your wedding accessories are what bring everything together. And from a planning standpoint, this is where things can either feel smooth…or turn into last-minute stress.

So you don’t overthink it, I’m laying out everything that actually matters for your wedding accessories.

Start With the Big Picture

Before you buy anything, I always recommend to my brides that they think about their overall look. I know how easy it is to scroll Pinterest and find something you love, only to order it and realize it doesn’t match the look you were going for once it comes in. Here are some questions you can ask yourself to avoid a last-minute crash-out where the item you thought you were going to love just didn’t cut it:

  • Does this feel simple or more detailed?
  • Does this match the setting of my wedding day?
  • Does everything feel like it belongs together?

This gives you a direction so you don’t start putting random things in your cart just because it’s cute.

Your Veil

This is usually one of the first wedding accessories you choose after getting your dress.

A veil can change the feel of your look:

  • shorter = lighter, more simple
  • fingertip = classic and easy
  • longer = more formal and dramatic

If you don’t want a veil, that’s completely fine too! Other options are: hairpieces, bows, or even a scarf or cape can still give your look something special.

From a planning side—just make sure whatever you choose:

  • doesn’t get in the way during photos or movement
  • works with your hairstyle
  • is easy to manage throughout the day

Keep Your Jewelry Simple

You don’t need a lot here.

A good rule:

  • For a detailed dress → simpler jewelry
  • For a simple dress → you can add a little more

Also think about your neckline:

  • high necklines usually don’t need a necklace
  • strapless or open necklines give you more flexibility

The goal is not to add more for the sake of having more, it’s to finish your look. So keep that in mind!

Shoes: Plan for More Than Photos

Shoes are where planning really matters. You’ll be on your feet most of the day, so think beyond how they look.

A lot of brides choose:

  • one pair for the ceremony/photos
  • one pair for the reception

Pro tip: Break them in ahead of time. This is one of those small things that makes a big difference.

Hair Accessories + Timeline

Hair pieces aren’t just about style—they affect your timeline too.

Make sure:

  • you bring them to your hair trial
  • your stylist knows how to place them
  • they feel secure enough to last all day

This avoids having to fix things later.

Try On Everything Before Your Wedding

This is one of the most important steps. Accessories can look great on their own—but different when everything is on at once.

Before your wedding day, try on:

  • Dress
  • veil or hairpiece
  • Jewelry
  • shoes

This gives you a chance to adjust anything early instead of the morning of.

If Something Is “Out of Stock”

When you’re trying on wedding accessories at your bridal shop or boutique, they might tell you that that particular item is “no longer available.” Before you panic, ask if you can purchase the sample item you’re trying on. While it might not always work, many bridal boutiques are willing to sell their floor sample, especially if the item is discontinued or unavailable to order. You may not get a discount, but if you fell in love with it, to me, it’s worth it!

Keep Everything in One Place

Put all your wedding accessories in one bag or box.

This helps with:

  • staying organized
  • making sure nothing gets left behind
  • giving your photographer easy access for detail photos

It’s a simple step that makes your morning feel a lot calmer.

What to Include in Your Detail Box

Have these ready in one place:

  • veil
  • jewelry
  • rings + ring box
  • shoes
  • perfume or cologne
  • vows
  • invitations
  • any meaningful items

Professional photographers love having these items all in one place. It allows them to create those stunning, styled wedding detail photos that tell the story of your day—without pulling you away from your bridal suite.

Final Thoughts

Don’t overthink your accessories. A lot of times, simple is better! And before buying something, ask yourself if you love it because it’s cute or if you love it because it matches your style and the wedding vibe you’re going for.
