Should You Hire a Wedding Content Creator?

I’ve had more couples ask about wedding content creators in the last year than in all the previous years of my planning career combined. The demand for real-time, behind-the-scenes, shareable content has genuinely grown. It makes sense that a role has emerged to serve it.

But like any vendor decision, hiring a content creator deserves real thought. Here’s what I’d want you to know before you add this line to your budget.

What a content creator actually does

A wedding content creator is specifically hired to capture vertical, phone-friendly, shareable content throughout your wedding day — getting-ready footage, ceremony POVs, real-time reactions, behind-the-scenes moments, and quick edits you can share the next day.

This is different from your photographer and videographer. They’re capturing the formal, polished, final-gallery version of your day. A content creator is capturing the scroll-friendly version. Some photographers are now offering this as an add-on. Some are dedicated content creation specialists.

When it makes sense

If sharing your wedding day in real time — or the day after — is genuinely important to you, a content creator is worth the investment. If you have a large social following or your relationship with social media is a real part of who you are as a couple, it can feel completely authentic.

It also makes sense if you specifically want behind-the-scenes content that your photographer isn’t going to capture — the chaotic joy of the getting-ready room, the candid moments between formal photos, the raw reactions your more polished gallery won’t show.

When it might not

If you’re hiring a content creator because you feel like you’re supposed to — I’d encourage you to pause. Ask yourself: will having an extra camera in my face on my wedding day make me more present or less? Will I actually post this content, or will it sit in a folder?

There’s a version of wedding planning where every decision gets made through the lens of how it will look on camera. The April Pulse captured exactly this tension: couples want their weddings to feel natural — and adding more documentation isn’t always the path to that.

Neither choice is wrong. But it should be your choice, made intentionally.

Questions to ask a content creator before booking

What does your delivery timeline look like? How many hours are you on-site? What’s included and what costs extra? Do you coordinate with the photographer and videographer to avoid overlap?

And the most important: look at their previous work and ask yourself honestly — does this feel like me? Does this feel like how I want my wedding day to look to the people I love? If the answer is yes, great. If you’re unsure, trust that instinct.

Not sure which vendors belong on your team? That’s exactly the kind of conversation we love having. Legacy Events Iowa — legacyeventsiowa.com
